Watch Out For Austerity Cuts In Your Country

Austerity cuts affect nearly 6 billion people today

Our interactive world map tracks current IMF austerity discussions in countries around the world. Find out what’s being discussed in your country.
Cuts to salaries and social protection. Privatization of public services. Higher food and fuel prices. Cuts to teachers, health staff, civil servants. These are standard recipes from the IMF. To find the true meaning of the IMF-jargon, see the definitions here: https://endausterity.org/austerity-measures/
Austerity is not inevitable. Alternatives exist.

“White (no color) countries: no IMF country report published since 2024, because IMF engagement was suspended or absent (Afghanistan, Belarus, Eritrea, Iran, Myanmar, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Venezuela), the government blocked publication of reports (Bahrain, Turkmenistan), or the country is not an IMF member (Cuba, North Korea, Taiwan).  No IMF report does not mean no austerity.”
