Position Title: Communications and Mobilisation Officer
Location: Virtual, must be able to have their own place of work, and travel occasionally.
Contract length: 12 months (subject to 3 month probationary period)
Hours: 5 days a week (37.5 hours) – some travel and weekend work will be required (with time off in lieu – TOIL for travel, weekend, evening work).
Start date: May/June 2026
Reporting to: Campaign Coordinator
Yearly Compensation: USD 24,657.00
Benefits: 25 days holiday per year + public holidays in the country of work. Flexible working arrangements are possible (in terms of hours and location).
Job description
End Austerity Campaign is looking for a skilled and switched-on communicator to help grow and activate our movement, and deliver campaign messages that build the case for ending austerity policies and their international drivers.
End Austerity Campaign is building a global movement of people from around the world and especially the Global South to promote alternatives to austerity that transform our economy towards a human rights-based, feminist and decolonial system.
The Communicator will be responsible for supporting and training volunteers, assisting on-the-ground actions in their messaging and building and delivering campaign tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote high-energy events, and digital actions, to keep campaign members informed, connected, and motivated.
- Lead in updating the social media channels of the End Austerity Campaign (currently: twitter/X, bluesky, instagram and facebook)
- Support the delivery of campaign tactics, mobilising our movement to engage in moments of intervention towards International Financial Institutions (IFIs) that promote austerity, and UN or other more democratic spaces working on alternatives.
- Work with the campaign coordinator in strengthening the network, linking grassroot, regional and global campaigners.
- Develop movement support structures that enable the growth and sustainability of our campaign.
- Contribute to campaign planning and research, helping identify opportunities for action and advocacy impact.
- Contribute to building a healthy movement culture committed to practices that centre justice, decolonial, feminist and inclusion.
Person specification
We expect the applicant to have most of the key skills and experience, and some of the ‘nice to haves’. Nobody meets everything! We have no specific education requirements, and experience can be in a paid or unpaid context.
Key skills and experience – you will:
- Have excellent people skills, you’re able to develop and lead a team and believe in giving real power and agency to others
- Have experience (around 12 months) working in a structured or team-based environment, developing transferable skills such as communication, coordination, or accountability
- Have a knowledge of international decision-making processes and advocacy around them.
- Be able to develop plans and timelines for your work, and use them to deliver effectively. You can manage any risks involved and keep any collaborators informed when any changes affect them
- Be committed to the principles of End Austerity which is rooted in human rights, climate, economic and decolonial justice
- Be digitally savvy and confident using a range of digital tools for organising such as Slack, Google docs, Whatsapp, Airtable, Canva, MailChimp and others
Nice to have but not necessary:
- Have experience campaigning in a social movement context (in a paid or volunteer capacity)
- Have experience delivering or facilitating participatory training for groups
- Experience working, organising, facilitating side-meetings, or meeting with institutional actors in key institutions
